Getting started

Lexicon is available free from the App Store. After downloading, you can start adding entries immediately — no account is required for the free tier.

To sync across devices, you will need a Plus subscription. See the Cloud sync section for setup instructions.

Adding and editing entries

Each lexicon entry can contain a word or phrase, one or more definitions, notes, tags, part of speech, IPA pronunciation, and links to related entries.

Entry fields

• Word / headword — the main word or phrase
• Definition — one or more definitions
• Part of speech — noun, verb, adjective, etc.
• IPA — pronunciation in International Phonetic Alphabet
• Tags — custom labels for organisation
• Notes — free-text field for examples, context, memory aids
• Linked entries — synonyms, antonyms, derivations

Undo / redo

All edits support full undo and redo. Shake your device or use the undo button in the toolbar to step back through changes.

Search tips and operators

Lexicon supports prefix, infix, and suffix search across all fields. You do not need to type the beginning of a word to find it.

Search is case-insensitive and searches across the word, all definitions, and notes fields simultaneously.

Tags and categories

Tags are free-form labels you create yourself. Common uses include part of speech, thematic categories (food, travel, emotion), difficulty level, or source language.

To create a tag, type it directly into the tag field on any entry. Tags are auto-completed from tags you have used before. You can filter by tag from the main list view using the filter bar.

There is no limit on the number of tags per entry in any tier.

Cloud sync Plus

Cloud sync requires a Luukza Plus subscription ($8.49/month or $64.99/year). It syncs your entire lexicon — entries, tags, IPA, notes, and linked entries — across all Apple devices signed into your Luukza account.

Setting up sync

1. Subscribe to Plus from the app or at luukza.com/pricing
2. Create your Luukza account using email or Apple Sign In
3. Open Settings in Lexicon and tap Enable Cloud Sync
4. Your lexicon will sync automatically when connected to the internet

Export and import your lexicon

You can export your entire lexicon as a JSON file at any time, in any tier. This is the recommended way to back up your data or move between devices without sync.

Exporting

Go to Settings → Export Lexicon. Choose JSON format. You can share the file to Files, Mail, or any other app.

Importing

Go to Settings → Import Lexicon. Select your JSON file. You can choose to merge with your existing lexicon or replace it entirely. Duplicate entries (matched by headword) are skipped by default.

Pronunciation

IPA notation (Free)

Any entry can include an IPA pronunciation string. Lexicon displays this alongside the headword in the entry view. IPA characters can be typed directly or pasted from any IPA keyboard app.

Audio pronunciation (Plus)

Plus users can record or upload an audio clip for any entry. Audio is stored in Cloudflare R2 and synced to your account. To add audio, open an entry and tap the microphone icon next to the IPA field.

Flashcards and quiz mode Plus

Flashcard mode turns your lexicon into a spaced-repetition study deck. Cards are generated automatically from your entries.

Modes

• Word → Definition — see the word, recall the meaning
• Definition → Word — see the definition, recall the word
• IPA → Word — hear/read the pronunciation, recall the spelling

Confidence scores per entry are available on the Pro tier, along with custom lesson builders and image cloze.
